On Tuesday, October 29, service members and former Alabama football players came together to give back to Christina Shirley, a veteran and her child who lost everything in a house fire.

Her son, 11-year-old Trenton Thorne was given a laptop and an autographed Kalen DeBoer Alabama football at Sumpter Air National Guard Base in Birmingham, part of Letterman of the USA's "Laptops for Heroes" program.

Letterman of the USA (LotUSA) is a non profit social impact organization consisted of former college athletes, and former and current coaches nationwide, that work to help members of local communities who are in need. Of those communities are honorably discharged veterans, wounded veterans, disaster victims, and former college players.

In addition to the gift to Shirley's son, LotUSA presidentDarryl Fuhrman heard the story of Christina Shirley and her son, and put plans in place to completely furnish their house/apartment with furniture and accessories through their Interiors for Heroes program.

"Everyone works together for the bettering of the Veteran, and it's just an amazing opportunity to be able to serve in that capacity and help veterans," George Harding said, service officer for the American Legion Post 255 in Fultondale, Alabama.
