Independence Day 2026: One Yard at a Time

As Americans gather across our great nation this Fourth of July, we celebrate far more than fireworks, parades, and family traditions. We celebrate the enduring spirit of freedom, the courage of those who secured it, and the responsibility each generation carries to preserve it.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, brave men pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to a bold idea—that liberty was worth fighting for and that a free people could govern themselves. The Declaration of Independence marked the birth of a nation unlike any the world had ever seen. It was not merely a political document; it was a statement of faith in human dignity, personal responsibility, and the God-given rights of every individual.

Today, that same spirit lives on in the men and women who continue to serve our country. From the battlefields of the Revolutionary War to the beaches of Normandy, from the mountains of Afghanistan to humanitarian missions around the globe, generations of Americans have answered the call of duty. Their sacrifices remind us that freedom is never free.

At Lettermen of the USA, we understand that service does not end when the uniform comes off. Former athletes, coaches, veterans, and community leaders from every background and every rivalry come together for a common purpose: serving others One Yard at a Time.

Perhaps that is one of the greatest lessons America offers the world. We may come from different regions, schools, teams, political perspectives, and walks of life, but we are united by something larger than ourselves. We are Americans. When disaster strikes, when veterans need assistance, when families face hardship, and when communities need hope, we come together.

The story of Lettermen of the USA itself is a testament to that principle. Born from the devastation of the 2011 Alabama tornadoes, former rivals joined hands in service to help their neighbors recover. What began as a response to tragedy grew into a movement dedicated to helping veterans, wounded warriors, former players in need, and communities facing challenges. That spirit of unity reflects the very best of our nation.

As we celebrate Independence Day, let us remember that patriotism is more than a feeling. It is action. It is volunteering in our communities. It is supporting veterans and military families. It is mentoring young people. It is standing beside those who are struggling. It is treating one another with respect and dignity, even when we disagree.
